Dream Cop, a moniker lifted from a chapter title in William S. Burroughs' short-story collection, Interzone, is the musical creation of 22-year-old multi-instrumentalist, Tommy Davidson. Upon first listen, most imagine Davidson hailing from a deteriorating factory town in England. Though Davidson currently resides in Blacksburg, VA--with its mountain-town seclusion and harrowing reputation--his music does not completely stem from such oppressing environments. Instead, he explores themes of abandonment and love lost from within to bring you his debut EP, Basement Tapes.

On Basement Tapes' title track, Davidson uses lo-fi elements to evoke the tension and discomfort of being pulled away from his warm Shields-esque womb. Davidson's chorus is a wistful lament, coupled with the self-aware realization that he must move on; "It was your voice on the basement tapes/Overdubbed and erased." The themes of abandonment continue with an eerie pitch-shifted vocal melody in the dreamlike piano-laden "Warm Thrash." MillionYoung reimagines “Warm Thrash” even further into dreamy territory only to surprise with a guitar-driven change-up halfway through. Finally, Outputmessage (who coincidentally also got his musical start in Blacksburg, VA) taps into the murky side of “Basement Tapes” rendering it into an utterly dark and epic tech-house track with Davidson’s whispered vocals weaved throughout in a haunting fashion.
