Outputmessage aka Bernard Farley, returns with the second of three singles leading up to his sophomore LP. This time around, he re-interprets two classics from his catalog, the stadium level break-beat track “Glintz” and the swirling melodic idm track “Resurface”, to match his new pop-oriented sound.

“Resurface (Vocal)” starts off with a bright synth in a calypso rhythm over a house beat while a gated version of the gorgeous arpeggio from the original begins to bubble from the background. The beat drops out and Bernard’s affected vocals come singing lyrics that are imbued with optimism. The song then leads to a chorus where he triumphantly sings “Resurface! Get up, and try again!” Perhaps inspired by the ups and downs of the fickle music industry, Farley sounds full of hope for the future providing a perfect soundtrack for a setting summer.

“Glintz (Vocal)” has a slick auto-tuned euro-pop sound on the verses, while pumping up the huge bassline and breaks from the original, for a monster of a chorus creating an epic track that lies somewhere between T-Pain and Royksopp while shedding the excesses of both sounds. Again, a theme of hope pervades with Farley singing “There’s a glint in your eye / That lets me know that everything will be alright” and finally ending the track with a searing coda repeating “you’ll never think to depart” until the track fades out.

Both tracks further prove that Farley’s foray into pop music is full-fledged with intent to make music that is as meaningful and memorable as anything else he’s released.

Along with these two tracks, Resurface/Glintz is packed with remixes. The “Resurface” remixes start off with Jahromil’s subtle electro house mix that puts Outputmessage’s vocals right in the forefront, layering and combining them in beautiful melodic fashion. Nacey, whose remixes have been garnering a lot of acclaim from the blogs lately, turns “Resurface” into a slick techno track. Craig Sopo, continues the techno theme, foregoing the vocals altogether for a trippy experience meant for a 3am dancefloor. Triobelisk starts off the “Glintz” remixes with a clunky disco mix that sounds like what Arthur Russell would make if he lived in a faraway galaxy. Evan Scott, techno fiend and co-owner of Race Car Productions, twists, flips, and reverses the vocals to swirling effect over a techno/house beat that will make you move without even noticing. Finally, UK producer Synchronoise, closes out the set with a melodic electro mix layered with rich synthlines and textures.
