Demonstrating his versatility, Bernard Farley, aka Outputmessage, changes things up from the melodic techno and breakbeat tracks that first got him attention on Ghostly’s Idol Tryouts compilations. He makes his vocal debut on “Undone”, the first single from his upcoming and long-awaited second full-length. You can still hear his signature bass lines, catchy melodies, and syncopated rhythms, but now Farley has also infused elements of pop and disco while mixing in his unique tenor vocals.

Undone starts innocently enough with a Gameboy sounding intro, but gives way quickly to a rumbling bass synth that adds a startlingly ominous feel. Farley demands for someone “to release what’s underneath their tongue” and it’s clear that he’s ready to get down to business. Walking a fine line between straight-forward and ambiguous lyricism while employing a danceable, yet quirky rhythm, Undone has a pop sensibility that is both catchy and free from saccharine sweet pandering.

The single also contains an eclectic set of remixes. City Rain slows down the pace and turns the track into a lush down-tempo head-knodder with minimalist beats and wistful twinkling synths. Autorock uses his Daedelus-like talents with samples to flip Undone into a bright, summery, indie-disco jam complete with a tight bass and horns. Master Flashhh channels Jean-Michel Jarre, creating a mesmerizing sonic adventure that wavers between half-time rhythms, hypnotic bass synths, and pitched vocals. 8 Bit Fit rounds out the collection with a seven minute electro-clash stormer.
